The New Solar Observatory at the Farash Center

Attached is an image of the new observatory at the end of July 2012. This photo shows the dual scope setup with our 130mm APO and a 90mm Coronado Ha scope belonging to Luke Leege. At the time of this photo our 100mm Lunt Ha scope was on its way back to Arizona for a repair on the pressure tuning unit. The initial views through the 100mm were great but short lived. As of today, July 31, is is somewhere between here and there with arrival in Rochester on Friday. With a little luck and good weather, we'll have a chance to check it out this weekend.

The telescopes are set up side by side on a Losmandy G11 mount and, for the present time, on a tripod. A permanent pier will replace the tripod in the near future. We plan on having an 8' long work table along the north wall with a black out pull curtain behind it to allow use of a computer for imaging and viewing during the bright daylight hours. The building is secured with a push button code door lock and the security code will be given out after each potential user becomes familiar with the facility.
